Why embark on a QUEST with students?
Reasons to offer a QUEST research project:
- Share your enthusiasm for research with highly motivated students at an early stage of their studies.
- Interest high-achieving Bachelor's students in a Master's degree program at JGU.
- Familiarize students with fundamental research group activities, laying the groundwork for their future endeavors in academia.
Who can offer a QUEST?
Professors, researchers, post-docs and doctoral students in the Department 08: Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science.
How big should be the QUEST?
The total working time of a student for a QUEST project is 100 hours (+ 50 hours preparation and follow-up time for students). It should be possible to complete the project within 1-2 semesters. The weekly working hours can be agreed individually between the supervisors and students. It is also possible to tender a project for several students if the required processing time exceeds 150 hours.
How can you submit a QUEST?
To submit a QUEST, all you need to do is fill out a short online form (see below). In addition to a description of the task, you can also indicate whether the students must fulfill certain requirements for working on the project (e.g. previous subject knowledge, language skills).
As the supervisor, you decide after the application process whether applicants meet your requirements. You also make the selection if several suitable students apply for one of your project places. The QUEST coordinator will be happy to support you in the selection process.
What are the other components of the QUEST certificate program?
The students present the results of their research project at a final event (poster/presentation). We would be very pleased if you would attend the final event as a supervisor. Students who also present their results in a scientific context (e.g. article in the planned JGU student online journal) will receive an award.
